________________________________________________________________________ It was October 25, 1985 – a Friday. Me and my buddy Mike snuck two girls, Amy and Julie, out of Amy’s house in the middle of the night. We were juniors at ******** high school. One of our friends slipped me a note at school that day about a party being thrown at the Holly House of all places, so we went to check it out. We got there and we could see the light from what we figured was a bonfire in the back yard, so we headed around back. Mike said he heard quiet music, like in the distance, but I don’t remember hearing anything. When we got to the back yard there was no one there. There was no bonfire either. We could still see the light, but now it was coming from the front of the house. So we made our way around front again. As we walked around we could see that the light was always on the opposite side of the house from us like it was moving too. We were back at the front of the house again and we could still see the light coming from out back. The girls were pretty freaked out at this point. Mike and I guessed that someone was fucking with us with a flashlight or something, so we decided that we would each take one of the girls around opposite sides of the house to the back. We thought one of us would have to pass whatever (or whoever) was causing the moving light we saw. I took Julie around the left side. Mike and Amy went around the right. Julie and I could see that the light continued to stay opposite of us, so Mike and Amy should be seeing what was going on from their side. That’s when we heard a loud banging noise and Amy screamed. This caused Julie to scream too and we ran around the house to find out what happened. Mike and Amy were gone. Julie got hysterical, hyperventilating, and I started looking around for any sign of them. We heard the banging noise again and could tell this time that it was coming from inside the house. I began walking toward the front door figuring that Mike and Amy were inside. Julie stayed in the yard. When I got to the porch, a sheriff pulled up to the house with his lights on. He got out of the car and told me to step away from the house, which I did. I thought I was screwed. But after I went back to Julie, instead of questioning me, the cop went into the front door of the house with his gun drawn. Another sheriff pulled up, and two more cops ran into the house. At this point Julie and I were thinking something really bad was happening. Julie stopped crying and I remember her saying, “The light’s gone”. That was all she said. She was right, though. The light we were following was no longer there. Then Amy walked out the front door with one of the cops. She looked like she was in serious shock. The two other cops followed them out carrying Mike’s body. Luckily, he was just unconscious, but no one could (or would) explain what happened. The squad arrived then to take Mike to the hospital. All of our parents had shown up too. Mike’s followed the squad. The girl’s parents took them home. I couldn’t even look at mine. Bad night. I don’t talk to Mike or Julie anymore, but for the rest of high school Mike never remembered anything about that night. He blocked it out I guess. I do talk to Amy. She says she remembers nothing and refuses to talk about any of it. I think she saw something, but I don’t think anyone will ever know but Amy. The following Monday I asked the guy who had originally sent the note about the party at the Holly House. He had no idea what I was talking about – said that he was out of school that whole week, sick. I never went near the house again ________________________________________________________________________ |
