Halloween at High Noon 2016 Update - 6/27

It would have been difficult for us to have chosen a hotter time of year to be trudging through the woods carrying audio gear, but we're already loving the results. And as luck would have it, Ms. Holly hasn't come back yet. That said, we do have one last trip we intend to take...

Once that is complete, we will be in true post-production mode with a completed album in sight. We've settled on a title that we will announce in the coming weeks along with some possible promotional artwork.

More to come...

…and regarding the Holly House:

As we now have the basis for the 2016 Halloween at High Noon release down, we move into breathing life into album, including a shift in focus to more live pieces/recordings. For that we have decided to migrate parts of the process into the cellar of the Holly House itself. It’s already proving to be a challenge (traveling as light as possible, relying on battery only, etc.), but the aesthetic, ambience and sheer creepiness factor is well worth it.  Not sure how this will translate to the listening experience, but at the very least, you know you’ll be getting a very…inspired collection of music.

Hopefully, she doesn’t come home…

Halloween at High Noon 2016 Update - 6/13

This year’s release is coming along really well.  We won’t go as far as to say we’re ahead of schedule, because as soon as we say that, October starts knocking – but we’re further along than we normally are in early June.  We are now at 21 tracks, and again – this will undoubtedly change – but we are moving into more of a post-production stage.

We’ve decided we want to again include elements of the Holly House into this release.  The Holly House was a prominent part of our two 2008 releases, Return of the Creeps and Atmosfear.  Click on the image to watch a video for Conjuration from the Halloween at High Noon release, Way of the Wicked, which was partially filmed in the Holly House itself. We have an idea of what we want to do, and we’ll keep you updated on that; but first: a little history about the Holly House...

I think every town/community has their version of Ms. Holly: a local legend whose story becomes more blurred and mysterious and unbelievable – and thereby more frightening – as time passes.

At an early age, you are introduced to the phenomenon that is Ms. Holly. Stories on the bus, at school, at sleepovers, on Halloween, etc. Her legend has enough roots that even the adults acknowledge her: “Be home before dark or Ms. Holly will find you”.  She was real.

Depending on what bus you rode or who you sat beside during lunch, the story about Ms. Holly varied.  Was she a witch? Was she a deranged eater of children? Was she just a vagrant? Whatever she was, she wandered the woods of our community for a long, long time.

The most common theory? Witch…or at least she was thought to be, and she lived in a house somewhere out in these woods.  Whenever children would go missing for any amount of time, it was presumed that she was the reason, that she was “witching” them and then sending them home to do her bidding.

Sometime in the 1940-50’s members of the community had apparently had enough, so they hiked out to her house in the woods and burned it down.  Whether she was in the house or not depends on whom you ask. Either way, Ms. Holly never really left.

As an older kid, but still too young to be at the party you are attending, you are invited/challenged to join a group of people who are going on a walk to see the remains of her house.  This is clearly an invite that you have little choice but to accept.

The walk is long, and just when you are about to concede that the joke is on you, you hear the gasps and shutters of disbelief.  Right in front of you is the very real (and unburned) Holly House.  Your challenge just escalated from going to see what was left of it to actually going inside.

More to come.

Halloween at High Noon 2016 Update - 6/6

A productive week as summer approaches, and we are seeing the album slowly taking shape. We have a long way to go, but putting together a potential track list is always an encouraging step.

One of the demos we recorded is a cover that will not be part of the 2016 release. We're not even sure where we want to take it, if anywhere, from here, so we thought we'd just share it as-is: Boris the Spider by the Who. Click on the name or the image above to listen.

We've often thought it would be interesting to work with a vocalist, and this track could certainly use that element. A female's approach might work even better. We'll see what comes of this in the future should a vocalist emerge.

More to come.
